Following MySpace's decision to launch Data Availability and Facebook's to launch Facebook Connect, Google has announced the launch of its Friend Connect. It will be a secure way of sending your personal profile informations, including status, friend list, photos, events and others to third party applications. This is to help members to keep a common friends' list and other infos across different sites that perform different activities.
Facebook is the pioneer currently among the Social Networking sites, with over 70 million users. MySpace has a larger user-base, but falling due its inability to cope with Facebook's applications and developer base. Google's Orkut, on the other hand, is left far behind.Basically, with these approaches, they will help other sites to connect with users more socially, and the users will be helped to coordinate between different sites they use.
As i am a Facebook freak myself, these decisions are of great curiosity to me currently. Don't know how the Privacy and Security terms will be set up. Wait for more updates in the way.
